Intuitive Horsemanship: The Movement of Energy
by Stevi Weissbach

If you read Intuitive Horsemanship you would remember that horses have the ability to communicate “telepathically” or through “thought waves.” But just what do they use to “communicate,” and how do they receive this information?

I want you to pay attention to a combination of things that happen when your horse gets scared or sees something unfamiliar and frightening.

The muscles on the horse will become rigid
The air seems tense; the horse may have even stopped breathing
You might even be able to “see” his thoughts whirring, trying to find out what this “thing” is…

Some horses might leap to the side or take off in the opposite direction without thinking.

When the dynamics of a situation change, this is what I call an “energy change.” Have you ever noticed that when you around some people you become energized? Or if you walk into a room and sense that two people have been fighting? Or how about the gorgeous “chick” that walks down the street and EVERYONE seems to notice? It is the “vibe” that they give off. You can understand this vibe from your gut feelings.

Little did you know,- the gut not only has more nerve fibers than the spinal cord (which transports messages to and from the brain), the stomach also has as many brain cells as the brain itself. Now, think about the horse’s stomach size in ratio to the size of its brain. It would make sense that they have access to more “gut instinct” information, wouldn’t it?

Everything and everyone has an energy field. Some would call it an auric field. To “see” where this field starts on your horse, walk up to your horse from a distance. There will be a point in which you will notice your horse responds. Whether he twitches his ears, drops his head, or makes a “be-line” for the hills, he is showing you where this zone starts. Each being’s space is at different lengths, and everyone responds differently when their “energy field” is entered.

When you know you have reached your horse’s auric field, you want to have permission to cross it. Stop approaching when you are on the edge of his or her energy field. You want to wait for a positive feeling that invites you to approach.

May the force be with you ;)
