I prefer to canter, I don't get bounced around so much that way! Although since I fell (almost 2 years ago now, you would think I'd get over it!) I still get a little nervous at the canter.

I absolutely love to trot through windy forested technical trails. There is just nothing like it. However, I absolutely love running. The faster the better. It also depends on the breed.

the first time i cantered, my aunt's horse bolted and tried to buck. then i was just getting over that, when Snow took off with me. so for that reason i prefer to trot.
HOWEVER - if i am completely comfortable with the horse, i love cantering. i especially love cantering on Merv, a big 16.2 ex-racer. he is so nice. and he will canter as slow or as fast as you want.

trotting sends my dbody into spasm, so even though the canter makes me a bit anxious, i love the gait, so much smoother!

I like a fair amount of both. Fergie has a really smooth trot and canter so she's comfy in either gait. =]

Depends on how smooth the gaits are. If they're smooth, I don't have a preference.if the gaits are rough... ugh. I'll pick the smoother gait. I had no idea that a trot could be so smooth until I rode a good pleasure horse and my buddy's 33yo arab [who rides like a young horse... puffing and snorting the whole time].

I prefer cantering but on my horse I don't mind trotting most of the time because he is sooo lazy and such an effort to keep in a good canter in the school. Out on a hack I love to go for a fast canter though to blow away the cobwebs (I don't think Harvey KNOWS how to gallop lol) xx
I used to ride an amazing horse called Troy and his canter was amazing - you could collect it so slow that we would I could canter next to the little ponies trotting! But then you could extend it and if you let him gallop - he was FAST!! xx

Yes in my pic I have the shortest stirrups everrr and yes I look silly and no my pony didn't care and yes WE HAVE THE BEST FUN EVERRR!! xx

Cantering for sure! But I think it does depend on the horse as well.
